What is IPL Laser Hair Removal and how does it work

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a non-invasive form of light therapy used for various dermatological procedures including long-term/ permanent hair removal. The device emits a broad spectrum of light which is absorbed by the pigment melanin located in the hair follicle. When the pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the IPL light, the light energy is converted into heat, resulting in thermal damage to the hair follicle. This results in delayed regrowth of the hair or permanent destruction of the hair follicle. Treated hairs naturally fall out over the course of a few weeks.

Which areas of my body can I use this on?

You can use your handset on your entire body, including your Brazilian and face (just be sure to not get too close to your eyes).

Do I need to shave before using this product?

Yes, you should shave the desired areas before using your handset. A close to skin shave is best recommended. The goal is for the light energy to reach the hair follicle as quickly as possible, so shaving beforehand is essential to achieve the best results. The hair follicle does need to be in tact for IPL to be effective. This means no waxing, plucking, threading, epilating etc.

Which hair removal methods can I use between treatments?

Between treatments you should only shave when required. You should never wax, pluck, or epilate as these hair removal methods removes the entire root, which is what absorbs the light during the treatment.

Are there any reoccurring costs?

No. This product is a once-off purchase. There is absolutely no need for replacements or refills.

Does IPL work for all skin tones?

IPL is suitable for all but the darkest skin tones. This is because the light energy may be more attracted to the pigments in the skin rather than the melanin in the hair. Refer to the skin tone chart on the How To Use page to see whether or not IPL is suitable for you.

How long will this device last?

What is the Skin Rejuvenation setting?

This device also includes a unique Skin Rejuvenation Setting at the Level 1 Light Intensity which can be used weekly. The device releases a pulse of filtered light that stimulate the fibroblast cells within the skin that produce collagen and elastin. By stimulating collagen production, this results in an improved and more youthful skin tone and texture. It is effective in controlling fine lines, acne and sun damage.

Can I use my Lumilia IPL Handset before or after tanning?

As IPL works with your natural skin tone, adding artificial tan creates a layer over your skin which doesn’t allow the device to penetrate as effectively. For a successful treatment please wait 2 weeks after sun tanning to use your Handset and please also wait at least 48 hours to tan after using your handset. Artificial tan should also not be present on your skin whilst using your handset but can be applied after.

 How long is the warranty for the Lumilia IPL Handset?

How often are treatments?

Use your Lumilia Handset every 2-3 days, for your first 4-5 treatments. Once the 4 to 5 treatments are completed, we recommend touch ups every 2nd week. IPL is not a 100% permanent, so you may reach the stage where very minimal hairs grow back. Skin Rejuvenation can be used 3 times per week.
